Alex Johnmeyer is the October featured artist at the gorgeous Renaissance Hotel, and you'll have the exciting opportunity to see them in person at the Opening Reception on Wednesday, October 16th, from 7-9pm! There will be live music, and Alex will have their prints for sale as well! Alex's work will be on display from October 1st through the end of the month.
It's been two years since Alex's last solo exhibition! Come see what they've been working on since then! Alex's art works are inspired by their own photography, which are either naturally occurring or created in the artist's studio. Alex then meticulously recreates the photography in either acrylic or watercolors and ink. Each of the resulting works is rich in its own story and emotional symbolism, inspired by color theory and societal iconography.
“I am presently exploring the ideas of community diversity, modern consumerism, and american nostalgia. I feel my artistic style is a mix of photo realism and expressionism. I prefer to work in a combination of watercolor, gouache and ink, or acrylic sometimes combined with different texture media. When one of my paintings shows texture, whether actual or implied, I feel it pulls the audience into the piece. I enjoy working from photographs I take myself, whether posed or found in my adventures. I feel like the paintings I create are a vibrant translation of my world... an opportunity to capture a moment in time and share it with others. I hope to express personal stories of love, joy, and loss, the struggles and celebrations of life that everyone can understand.”
