DONE! Six of my watercolor paintings will be made into 36 inch reproductions (by the amazing Mark Florida) and installed in the new SLU hospital opening in June! I've been working on these since November. I am so thankful for the opportunity. There will be a book published about the artists whose work will be featured in the hospital, and I thought I would share what I wrote.
"It seems the years of my life are marked by my trips to the Botanical Garden. It's truly a beautiful place... where my family and I have shared times of joy, serenity, and meditation. In the summer, we celebrate at the Japanese Festival, and in the winter, we sip hot cocoa and cuddle for warmth as we stroll through the holiday lights. I vividly remember the first time we brought my daughter to feed the koi fish when she was 3 years old, and now it's become a tradition every year that we visit in the spring, when the tulips are in full bloom.
All of my artwork is inspired by my own photography, so for me these aren't just paintings, they're moments from my life. I like to pretend we're old friends, flipping through an album while drinking tea, as I tell you the stories behind the images. I feel the paintings I create are a vibrant translation of my world... an opportunity to capture a moment in time and share it with others. I am honored to have been chosen for this project. I know from experience the hours (or days) spent in hospital spaces can go by slowly, and hope that these pieces I have created will bring a moment of respite, or happiness."
